Congratulations to Brigitte DC Lablache (year 10) and Nelza Gardette (year 4) for both winning the entries for their age categories in the LMYL International Literacy Competition. Please check out the link for the write-up: http://lendmeyourliteracy.com/dreamsofhope-winners/.
'The top prize could only go to one and Shannon and Tony chose this wonderfully creative piece: A Fantastic Future in Five Senses by Nelza Congratulations Nelza at Vijay International School in the Seychelles' They were also impressed with Noah Labuschagne's beautiful persuasive piece.
'Our final category was 12-15 years. Top educational consultant and promoter of the ‘Joy of Learning’ Anita Devi and author and LMYL consultant Charlie Carroll found the decision a tough one. A special mention for outstanding entries go to Alyssa from Vijay International School for this stunning entry: http://lendmeyourliteracy.com/dreams-future/ and a beautiful piece entitled Dreams and Hope from International School of Latvia: http://lendmeyourliteracy.com/international-school-latvia-dreams-hope-entries/. However there could only be one winner, and Charlie and Anita agreed that this spectacular piece by 14 year old Brigette from Vijay International School was the one! This truly moving piece really captivated the judges. Well done Brigette.'

Last Assembly for 2012/2013
Held on the last day of school for this academic year, Thursday 18th July, it was mixed feelings all round. Early Childhood students moving on to Juniors received certificates of achievement and entertained with a few lines on how they feel about the change. Year 6 students moving on to Seniors also received their certificates after a small sketch highlighting the best of the past years for them, as well as reflecting on who has left and are leaving, ending with an inspirational sing-a-long of
R. Kelly's "Worlds greatest". Students also received certificates for 100% attendance. Mr. Lau and Mrs. Roux received farewell gifts from students.
Mr. Lau gave his last performance (sadly not a breakdance routine including) as a 'loooong' speech and presented his parting gift to VISP in the form of a fantastic visual compilation of pictures (see above) of his year with us.

Hip Hop at VISP
On Thurs 27th June, Nadine 'Flavor Roc' Messias from Original South Kingz crew (France) visited Praslin to perform her solo show. Her performance received rapturous applause and the audience were not dissapointed by the dynamic showcase from Praslin's very own Street Boys Crew.
An open cypher welcomed students from VISP to showcase their skills and the evening finished with a friendly dance battle with Nadine, Darrell 'Are Dee' Roucou from Joker Crew and Mr Lau testing their skills against the Street Boys. In true spirit of a friendly showcase, the evening ended with respectful handshakes and embraces from all dancers. Mr Kennedy and Ms Sybille Cardon from the VISP board of governors gave speeches of thanks.
VISP would like to thank Sybille for organising the showcase and also Nadine, Darrell and the Street Boys for sharing their talents and inspiring the students at VISP. We look forward to receiving Nadine, Darrell and the Street Boys crew again on a more regular basis next academic year. Look out for more workshops and shows!

The Behrens-Breitfeld family book donation
On 26th June, the school and members of the Board of Governors were delighted to host Birgit Behrens and Bernd Breitfeld. The Behrens-Breitfeld family has been extremely generous towards our school. Their daughter Indra has been assisting in the Junior section for the past term, and Birgit and Bernd with the friendly support of a prominent schoolbook printing company and a dear family friend in Germany, recently organized and coordinated a significant donation of books and educational resources to the school. These are currently being shipped to Praslin from Europe.
An assembly was held to acknowledge their philanthropy and as a school we express our gratitude towards the Behrens-Breitfeld family. During the assembly, Birgit and Bernd presented a sample of books to the two winners of the Sarah Morgan reading prize and went on to ask every child in the school to choose a book (title, author or topic) which they wished to have in the school library. In the coming weeks, class teachers will compile these lists and in the near future, Birgit and Bernd with the help of their friends and working colleagues at Wesstermann Verlag will aim to fulfill these literary wishes and thus mark an ongoing friendship and sponsorship of the Vijay International School.
We are certain that these donations will have a huge impact on the education of our children at VISP. Once again, we thank the Behrens-Breitfeld family for their generosity and support and we look forward to welcoming them on their return visits to Praslin.

Olympic Family Fun Day
Vallée de Mai club
The Vallée de Mai club meets every Friday to learn more about our World Heritage Site. On 2nd May, the club had a very exciting visit from one of the Black Parrots that lives in the Vallée de Mai. The Black Parrot is an endemic species, residing only in Seychelles. There are 650 in the world, all living on Praslin island. Students from the junior section (Year 3-6) learnt more about this national treasure and even had the opportunity to feed "Ringo" the Black Parrot.
Sports Day
Sports Day was held on 21st March and was the biggest sporting event at VISP to-date. Students from every year group competed in track and field events. We commend all those who competed and congratulate Fregate house for winning with the most points overall.
The day also helped Mr Derek, Mr Howell and Mr Leseperance identify potential athletes for the Inter-School games which will be held on La Digue in the Summer term.

Headgirl and Headboy 2012-2014
Congratulations to Alison Dugasse and Emmanuel Morel for being elected as the headgirl and headboy until 2014. We were impressed by their manifestos and their speeches. We hope that they will continue to lead as school ambassadors and also help implement improvements to the school.
