The Super Hat Hand
The Super Hat Hand is very handy because it has so many gadgets on it. It will transform your life with its many modes and functions.
One of the best things is the bully-proof mode because it has a fist on it. When a bully or an intruder comes towards you then you just have to press the button and the fist flies out and knocks the bully out.
This magnificent invention also has a built in B.B.Q. so that you never need to be hungry again. It can make anything you want at any time; even in the night when you are sleeping. All you have to do is press the B.B.Q. button and wish really hard for the food you want, and then it will drop down in front of your face.
Also, if a lady is wearing this hat and she wants to change her outfit she just has to press the ‘quick-change’ mode button and a closet will come down on the lady. Next, she can choose what she wants to wear by pointing at the required outfit, then pull the lever and she is dressed in a brand new outfit.

During Halloween week the whole of the juniors have looked at Halloween animations and then created their own. Here is what year 4/5 created.
In Miss Cottingham's literacy class we have created our own news reports based on the Greek myth Theseus and the Minotaur.
Once upon a time...
Here are some photos of our focus week, including some of the 'buddy' work we did with Year Two. In Year Five, we dressed up as characters from the book The Magic Far Away Tree'. Check out our amazing costumes - especially Simon's!
We Are Readers!
The Magic Far Away Tree
Along with Years 3 and 4, we have been reading the story The Magic Far Away Tree. Take a look at these pictures. Can you identify the characters?
Here are some video clips of the different lands at the top of the special Far Away Tree.

Reader of the Year - Antoine
Antoine won the very special Sarah Morgan Reading Prize, beating other children in the Junior section of our school. He has made us all very proud with his effort to improve his reading this year and he has developed a real love for books. Antoine is also an excellent writer because he reads so much, and with his talents in drawing too, I say we keep an eye out for books written and illustrated by Antoine himself in the future! Well done!
We Are Writers!
In Literacy we looked at the different ways that famous authors write stories. We realised that they all have some similarities. For example, we decided that the opening to a story is very important. It needs to 'grab' the reader and make them want to read more. We followed something called the 'Story Mountain' to help us structure our writing.
Cruella the Witch by Manon
Once upon a time, there was a country. On one side there was a horrible witch and on the other there was a charming castle where there lived a King and Queen. This witch lived in a disgusting, ancient castle and inside there were rats, wolves, spiders and Cruella, the witch. She enjoyed eating frogs, lizards and spiders. Cruella was an annoying woman with cruel fingers and dark hair. On the other side, the King and Queen were happy. Their castle was graceful and inside there were 13 kitchens (all in gold), the food was marvelous and the bedroom was enormous! The King was called Mick and the Queen, Rose. Rose had a white cat and a little monkey. Te knight had lots of horses: a dark black one, a white one and a beige one. Behind the castle there was a beautiful river.
One day, Cruella was watching the castle of Mick and Rose for a long time. She saw the gold in the entrance and the beautiful cars outside. She was thinking and decided to make a plan to steal this radiant palace. She spent her time during the day writing, thinking and looking at her plan. The old woman was stressed but very excited too.
The next day, when everybody was sleeping, the hyper witch crossed the bridge that separated both of the castles and arrived at Mick and Rose’s palace. She saw the windows to Mick’s bedroom were open, so the nasty woman, who had a rope with her, climbed up to the bedroom. Unfortunately, she saw the crown of Her Majesty.
That afternoon the King said to the Queen: “Have you seen my crown?”
“No, sorry!” replied the Queen.
At this moment, Her Majesty saw a silhouette running over the bridge, wearing a diamond crown!
He took his horse and the horse galloped very fast. The king caught the stupid witch and brought her back to the fortress. He took back his diamond crown and put the horrible woman in prison. Sometimes the Queen’s monkey, Joe, fed her food.
Now the witch is a waitress at the charming castle of Mick and Rose. She became kinder with others. The knight burnt down the black, dark castle which once belonged to the witch. This charming palace is now a happy place: The King and Queen were cheerful forever and maybe the witch was too…

The King of the Northern Hills by Antoine
Out of the fogginess of the Northern Hills, a mythical village lies undisturbed. Beneath the village lay a secret chamber leading to the great King. He had an embellished crown made of solid gold with jewels of mystery on either side. He had black hair and a nasty scar across his face. Known to destroy villages, torture men, women and even children and enslave millions.
He invaded the whole of ancient Britain. Despite the scar across his face, the king needed to defeat the last of his enemies.
The king spoke to his men about a dragon with a famous reputation for spraying boiling hot steam water in people’s faces, that could make their jaws vanish and their eyes evaporate to thick dust in the air. The king’s men were filled with fear by its fury. The guards, shaking with terror, glared at each other and the king could see the fear in their eyes and knew that they would be loyal.

Eli Shane and the Dragons by Christian
Once there lived a young boy called Eli Shane. He wanted to be Viking ruler like his old father. Although Eli Shane had still not learnt to fight the dragons he was determined to do it. The people from the village lived in a hideaway, where the tall green grass grew; healthy trees bore tasty fruit until the dragons attacked again for food.
The Vikings did what they always did when the dragons attacked; they ran out with their swords and tried to protect the women and children of their village. Despite the fact that Eli had no skills, he still went out and fought the dragons to help save his family. In the midst of the fighting, Eli’s father trudged up to the dragon leader and demanded’ “How dare you invade our village?” The dragons ignored him and continued battling until the villagers had wounded them and flew off.
Meanwhile, the Vikings were celebrating their victory. Eli sat outside nervously, saying to himself, “Do I really want to kill dragons or I want to ride on them, high above the clouds and be free?” He sighed and returned indoors to join in the feast. After a night of celebrations the Vikings slowly started returning to their homes. Eli went to bed thinking about training dragons.
The next day, Eli had gone out into the forest when he saw a dragon. It was a Hectron dragon. Eli’s heart was beating so fast it nearly popped out of his chest. He approached the dragon nervously, shaking, palms sweaty. The dragon bellowed out and hot steam rushed out of its nostrils. Eli bravely stared at the dragon, removed his sword and said, “I’m sorry my dear friend, but I have to!” the dragon thought Eli was going to kill it and so bowed low to the ground, surprisingly, Eli did not kill it but jumped on its back and began patting the dragon.
In astonishment the dragon, found the stroking on his back very comforting, and Eli whispered in its ear, “take me to the clouds”, with a flap of its huge wings the dragon flew higher and higher into the sky.

Fairyland by Rona
Magical and beautiful, the light blue waterfall flowed down the green grass. Fairyland was a common and well known place for the way Goldie ruled. Goldie had long, curly and gold hair. That night, whilst all fairies were sleeping, the tall, purple and nasty ogre came thumping along, destroying all the fruit trees. Although the ogres were good friends of the fairies, they wanted to steal from them.
Vulnerable and angry, the ogre thought he should do it in a nice way despite the fact that he was evil, he was still cute and chubby! He stood up with a thump, got a piece of paper and started writing with his big, fat fingers.
As soon as the ogre finished his marvellous plan, he went to bed peacefully. One Sunny morning, Goldie and the fairies, were occupying the Roosevelts, making them bloom. In a dash, the ogres ran, heading for the fairyland. As soon as they got to the entrance, they ran as fast as cheetahs. In alert, the ogres frightened the fairies and startled poor Goldie. “What is going on here?” demanded Goldie. Quickly and ashamed, she glared at the ogres with amazement. “Can I help you?” asked Goldie.
“Yes, you can, I want to take all the magic!” said the ogre.

Nimos and his Snow Dogs by Simon
Across a wonderful, white powdered village, there lived a handsome, strong and powerful boy called Nimos. He wore a soft, thick and white fur coat and had six snow dogs. One day he took his shiny, wooden sleigh and went out in the cold air that was cold, with a strong winter breeze.
Nimos called out to his dogs and they attached them to the sleigh before making them follow the narrow path to his village. The dogs scurried along and Nimos fell over the sleigh, tumbling down a dangerous cliff. He cried out in pain as he rolled, finally falling into a dark, damp hole.
Shaking and freezing, Nimos tried to look for a way out. Meanwhile, the snow dogs began following the smell of Nimos to try and find him, but the cold air had blown his scent away. As time passed, Nimos was starting to get blue from his head to his feet. He was really cold and could hardly feel his fingers and toes. After many hours, Nimos got an idea…
Nimos shouted out for help and his voice echoed across the vast white snow. He listened in dead silence for a reply and all he could hear was the blowing of the wind. After many hours, Nimos who had given up, heard howling of his dogs calling out to him. Nimos yelled out to them and soon they were by his side.

Amber and the Cursed Amulet by Trishia
Far away in modern Egypt, a young, beautiful archaeologist searched the desert for historical artifacts. Her name was Amber. While she went to the dig site, a faint, mysterious gust of wind blew passed her then she looked into the distance and saw a deadly blizzard of sand. She wiped her damp, bronzed forehead with her palm, flicked her long golden hair behind her ear and stared into the distance. Suddenly, a voice cried out to her, “Hide Amber, hide!” Before she could understand what was happening the little, hot, yellow grains of sand started to fill up her shoes. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, for the desert is an everlasting death trap. During the blizzard, Amber hit something hard with her foot, tripped over and tumbled into an Egyptian chamber.
Out of the blue, the spirit of Cleopatra adorned in gorgeous jewels appeared in front of her. The atmosphere seemed to turn icy cold. Her eyes were like mesmerizing green emeralds and her lips blood red. She gave a cursed Egyptian amulet to Amber and told her about the curse it bore and cautioned her about the powers it held within. “You must safe guard it with your life!” said Cleopatra before she disappeared into thin air.
Jealousy filled the air, for the local government of Kzar Ming knew that Amber was the chosen one to save Egypt from the return of the 12 deadly plagues. A government spy started to follow Amber and a sly idea popped into his head… As night time came the spy put his plan to steal the amulet from Amber into action.
Amber woke up to find the room had been turned upside down…it was a mess! Soon, she realized the amulet was missing. Quickly and frantically, she put on her clothes, and jumped out of her room into the busy streets. She tried desperately to look for the precious amulet. She searched in every nook and corner hoping to find it. A force within her persuaded her to go back into the same chamber where she had seen Cleopatra’s ghost. She called the police and asked them to meet her there, where they soon ground the spy and arrested him.
Amber was made the new governor of Egypt. The people adored her and she became their local hero.
