Year 6 2014 - 2015
Welcome to our Year 6 page. Last term we had lots of fun especially with our topic Ancient Greece. Here are some of the things we got up to:
To celebrate all our hard work in Primary school at the end of year 6 we have a school trip to Bird island. However before we can go we need to raise money to pay for the flights from Praslin to Mahe. We have started by organising 2 end of term Christmas discos, one for Early Childhood and the other for the Juniors which were a great success.
As part of our D.T. project we designed and made catapults. We found this challenging as it was our first time using glue guns, saws and a drill but we were really pleased with our end results. In our evaluations one of us said that they enjoyed the challenge because they had to turn their brain upside down to work out the answer! We then had fun testing them to see who's could launch a cube the furthest.
In class we learnt about Greek temples and for homework we created our own temple trying to incorporate as many features as we could.
During Halloween week the whole of the juniors have looked at Halloween animations and then created their own. Here is what year 6 created.

BLACK AND WHITE DRUMMERS
Year 6 became drummers during their music project this term. They shared ideas, choose 4 different patterns and then put them together to create a performance which they performed at the Early Childhood talent show. Here is a video of their fantastic performance.
Bread project
Year 6 had great fun finding out about bread, designing their own recipes, brand names, advertising, packaging and then selling their product to parents and children. They had to think about how they would make a profit bearing in mind the price of ingredients, how much they could sell their bread for, what it looks like and smells like. They chose to work in two groups - boys vs girls and faced challenges of how to work together and make group decisions. The final outcome was the girls made more profit than the boys however the boys got bonus points from Mr Kennedy which then put them in the lead by SR50! Here are some photos from the day they became a business and made then sold the bread. (Don't worry Mateo had finished preparing the bread before he licked his hand!!!)
Silhouette
Year 6 students enjoyed a wonderful end of year experience on Silhouette Island.
